A Film by Louise Archambault

Three elderly hermits live deep in the woods, cut off from the world. While wildfires threaten the region, their quiet life is about to be shaken by the arrival of two women – a luminous octogenarian, unjustly institutionalized her whole life, and a young photographer charged with interviewing survivors of the region’s deadliest forest fire. Spring 1961. John F. Kennedy is America’s new president, the Cold War heats up in Berlin and nuclear bombers are deployed from bases in arctic Canada. When the white man known as Boss arrives at Piugattuk’s hunting camp, what appears to be a chance meeting soon opens up the prospect of momentous change. Boss is an agent of the government, assigned to get Piugattuk to move his band to settlement housing and send his children to school, so they can get jobs and make money. But Kapuivik is Piugattuk’s homeland. He takes no part in the Canadian experience; and cannot imagine what his children would do with money.

MAIDEN

A Film by Alex Holmes

In 1989, the very idea of a competitive all female sailboat crew was nearly inconceivable to the manly world of open ocean yacht racing. They’d never make it to the start of the Whitbread Round the World Race, much less survive to the finish. They’d never get the funding. They didn’t have the strength or skill. They’d die at sea. Did that many professional female sailors even exist?

This is the story of Tracy Edwards, a 24-year-old cook on charter boats, who became the skipper of the first ever all-female crew to enter the 1989 Whitbread Round the World Race.
