EMERGING VOICES

Our 2022/23 season:

Call for submissions to TheatreOne’s Emerging Voices new play development program

TheatreOne’s Emerging Voices is now accepting submissions for the 2023-2024 season!

Emerging Voices is an annual series of workshops and staged readings of three new, original plays by local and regional playwrights. Participating playwrights benefit from dramaturgical support before, during and after the workshops, have the opportunity to engage with professional artists during the workshops and see their plays read before live audiences, receiving valuable feedback from actors and patrons.

Interested playwrights are invited to submit scripts to TheatreOne’s Artistic Associate, Tamara McCarthy at: ev@theatreone.ca. To meet eligibility criteria, playwrights must reside in Canada and the scripts must be original plays that have not received a professional production. Submission deadline for

new scripts will be August 28, 2023. Final script decisions will be chosen by September 5, 2023 but further submissions are always welcome. There is no fee for submitting or for taking part. Selected playwrights will receive an honorarium based on PGC workshop rates.

Emerging Voices and TheatreOne supports Equity and inclusion in Theatre.

A word from our Artistic Director:

Welcome to a new era for TheatreOne! With some challenging years behind us, we are moving forward with a spirit of renewal. We have a new Executive Director, Michael Cade, who brings decades of experience and expertise as a highly respected Theatre Administrator; we have an impressive, revitalized Board of Directors; and the organization has been inspired by the original mission of the organization: to provide excellent live performances to our community. Our core programming (Just Kidding for Kids, Main Stage, and Emerging Voices) is all part of that focus on high quality live theatre, and a key ingredient of that commitment is to have the company begin producing theatre locally again – starting this season with the World Premiere of Wild Geese written by a Nanaimo-based playwright Jennifer Wynne Webber. Join us this year as we start our new journey!
